I will agree with butt head that I could've helped the situation by turning around and leaving. Im sure my actions didn't really help the situation. I just don't like being treated like a dog by a complete stranger yelling at me. Looking back I could've handled it a little more maturly, but at the time I was pretty well hacked. I'm not happy with my actions or his and I just wanted to bring this issue up to maybe inform others of what happend so that maybe it doesn't happen to anyone else. I have no hard feelings for any of you on here that posted your opinions of the situation as that is your right to do so! So thanks everyone for your 2 cents!

hknfsh,

I was definitely referring to the marina owner as the problem...not Richline. Sorry I wasn't more clear. Like I said earlier, I empathize with what happened to Richline.

And I agree with just about everything you said, hknfsh. Except instead of roping off the area, they need to allow fishing in all these areas they already have marked as no fishing. There is already too much of the lake they prevent us from fishing, which nobody can seem to figure out why. Sorry, that's just another one of my soap box topics.

I'm more than pleased with the response I received from Dave Woods, as follows:

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify some of the misconceptions about the “marina cove” at Fellows Lake. City Utilities (CU) and MDC have agreed to keep this cove closed to boat fishing, allowing bank fishing only. Further, this cove is open to catch-and-release fishing only. This cove is frequently used for kids fishing events, senior groups and handicapped groups, and we are in the process of further developing the habitat in that cove as way to increase fishing success for these special groups. We have decided to allow the general public to also fish this cove, as long as they are fishing from the bank and are practicing catch-and-release. We have discussed this course of management with marina staff, however I will personally follow up with the folks at the marina to make sure they are aware that the public CAN fish in the that cove from the bank. I will also make sure proper signage is in place to inform anglers of the rules of fishing in the cove. So, to be clear, anglers may not fish from a boat in the marina cove, but they may fish from the bank as long as they release all fish caught.

As for other issues anglers may have had with marina staff, I would encourage them to contact City Utilities. CU maintains the lease agreement with the marina operators and all issues regarding the marina, marina staff, etc… should be communicated to CU. If issues arise involving the management of the lake’s fishery and regulations, MDC would be the main point of contact.

You can contact Sherry Raney at City Utilities at the following address: Sherry.Raney@cityutilities.net. I have also copied Sherry on this email.

I hope this helps clarify some of the confusion. I have already followed up with CU staff about your concerns and I will extend that follow up by visiting with marina staff and placing some signs in that cove."

Dave also said "We will work to change our next round of publications to reflect the restrictions".

It is really nice to see our Conservation Department more than willing to help out in these situations. Hopes that answers a lot of questions.

Muskie Bob,

Thank you so much for your time and effort that you have put towards this subject.

It is nice to have a contact that we can share any future concerns that may occur while using Fellows Lake and Marina.

I'm happy that communication and cooler heads have prevailed and hopefully with a few changes to signage and some increased awareness the situations that Richline and myself incurred will be a thing of the past and everyone can have relaxing days while enjoying the beautiful outdoors we are so blessed to live in and around.

Only time will tell if this will help the Marina owners actions and attitude but I'm going to choose the high road and hope that it will be a positive experience for all as we move forward.

Thanks Again and Happy, Relaxing, and amazing Fishing to All

Dougie

Good work Muskie Bob, your source provided some good information and remedies. Hopefully there aren't any hard feelings, or at least not long lasting ones, among all that responded to "Fellows Lake Marina". Hey Richline - even though I don't know who you are, I'd be fine with fishing the same shoreline with you (especially if I was catching more fish).

Lol Id fish with you too butthead! Thanks for following up with that great response from your sources muskie Bob! That sounds like there is a good resource to go to with issues and questions! Seemed very helpful. We can all have a good debate or conversation on here and not get too butt hurt about it and I appreciate that.

I must say....it is an awesome thing when an issue such as this can be talked about and shared among strangers (so to speak) and a solution of sorts or.in this case an authoritive contact can be reached for.questions. I tip my hat to Muskie Bob and a thank you to Dave Woods for such a prompt and quick.response ! I'm not trying to keep the pot stirred when I say this...but...this may have no bearing on the behavior of the marina staff. Some peoples attitudes never change so I would encourage any and everyone to contact the provided link with any past or present issues such as this. It needs to be on file and noted. Having said that....I hope we can all enjoy our days of relaxation and fishing where ever we may launch a boat ! Thanks and respect to each of you for your opinions.....it does make a difference !

Now you've done it, who's the guy going to PO if no one comes into his cove?

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
