ozark trout fisher Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 Iowa State?? Is that the same school that made the final 16, I believe it was, and lost to the eventual national champion. They play UConn closer than any other team. I was referring to football, because, well, that's where one goes when there is a need to insult Kansas. Looking back, that was a regrettable response on my part to an obvious troll. There is something about the revolting phrase "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" that causes me to abandon all reason and get sucked into just about any kind of argument. Ya'll may not want to play us, but the utter disdain between MU and KU will never fade. It's practically written into our genetic code.
darbwa Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Did you say on up to Tulsa? Not gonna sugarcoat it-that's simply an ll-informed statement. Don't even try to defend it, or actually do. We'd have a pretty good laugh. Have fun going 2-10 this fall. Maybe you'll beat Iowa State or something to get to 1-8 in a conference with two losses to FCS programs, even though KU decided to take a rare year off from contributing to that total. High goals, my friend. But ya'll have great scenery....Oh wait, we got ya beat there too. Haith is getting an increase in pay to go to a school that made the tournament from a school that did not make the tournament. That is a step in the right direction. Neither team has ever made a Final Four so it is not as if either program can claim some sort of elite status. My main point is that Missouri is looking like a stepping stone for basketball coaches. Of course, I was kidding about Quinn Snyder. In his case I imagine MU fans would prefer to have a coach that was only stopping by on his way to something better. The fact that Missouri abandoned the Big 12 cannot be disputed. Therefore, they made the decision to end the rivalry. Ozark Trout Fisher, I am not a troll, I enjoy this forum too much for that. I am a Jayhawk and a Tulsan who loves Tulsa basketball almost as much as Jayhawk basketball. You said it yourself: "...the utter disdain between MU and KU will never fade." We can agree on that. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Ya'll may not want to play us, but the utter disdain between MU and KU will never fade. It's practically written into our genetic code. Nothing like a regrettable response to a regrettable response. The rivalry is dead. You just can't have it when you're in a different conference. It's over -- and that's regrettable. Maybe over the next 20 years a really good rivalry will develop with someone down there, but it won't be the same. If you like football and tabloid headlines, Mizzou's the place. If you like basketball and want an education, KU's the place. And don't sell our scenery short, bub. Jump start your car and drive over to the Flint Hills some time. No ticks, no meth. John

Eh, the Flint Hills are pretty. Won't argue there. No ticks, no meth, no trout, crappy football team, no trees in the western 2/3 of the state. Yeah, ticks never sounded quite so nice. Now my only regret is that I called my first post regrettable. Starting to think I hit the nail right on the head.......

Okay-look at Missouri's number of NCAA tourney appearances compared to Tulsa. It's not close. This is not a legitimate argument. Here's the deal- you guys are overpaying for a mediocre (at best) basketball coach. Our AD made no move to keep Haith, and according to sources wouldn't even return his phone calls when he was thinking about leaving. Everyone associated with MU desperately wanted him out of town. You did us a favor, and I thank you kindly for that. That said, while I have nothing against Tulsa, everything about his history indicates that he will sink your program into the depths- after an initial honeymoon period with Danny Manning's team still around.
Justin Spencer Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 As someone who grew up in the SEK, I must say I enjoy living in Mo. More than in Ks. Kansans are nicer people in general in my opinion, I like KU basketball, Gorilla football, and now root for Mizzou since they are in the SEC, yes the rivalry is dead KU won't play MU for the same reason Mizzou won't play MSU, there is no upside, only the chance of an upset. I hope Mizzou gets a good coach because long term I think they have a better chance at being a bball power than a football power in the SEC. Rcjh, MIZ, EMAW, and gooorillas! Am I a fence straddler, yes I am, I love sports and enjoy supporting all my local teams, except Missouri southern and Northwest Missouri State! Kim Anderson for president! I agree with you on Kansas people being nicer in general. And I'll go ahead and say it: the farther you get away from Johnson and Douglas counties (that's KC and Lawrence) the more likable the people are. REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I have always been a fan of using metaphors, and this one has always been one of my favs: I'M OUT OF HERE LIKE KANSAS IN THE FIRST ROUND. nothing against KU, it just sounded good.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 The rivalry started around 1854 and i don't think it will end anytime soon. It might subside for periods of time, but meetings are inevitable and nothing will change or mellow. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
