The rivalry started around 1854 and i don't think it will end anytime soon. It might subside for periods of time, but meetings are inevitable and nothing will change or mellow.

It's pretty much dead from what I see and hear. Sure, if they meet along the way it'll still be a rivalry -- but not like the good old days. And when's that gonna happen anyway, and will it matter?

I think when and if MU/KU meet in the future it will certainly be intense, but if that is 20 years from now your right it won't have the same type of intensity. They will have to play before a generation goes by without remembering what the rivalry was like. Self has been really vocal about not playing MU while he is the coach at KU...so unless he changes his mind it is probably unlikely to happen. He shows no signs of letting it go though. It seems a bit extreme to keep saying "we will never play again as long as I am coach" when they would have made the same decision if given the chance.

I also think it is silly that MU won't play SLU and KU won't play Wichita State. You play 30 games in basketball 1 game is not going to matter if you lose and lately those would have been considered quality games. Neither program is a threat to the long term stability of the "big" programs and they don't even recruit the same type of players.

I would schedule MU in heartbeat right know...they are going to be terrible next year...I mean terrible.

With the number of games scheduled in BB the only reason there is no longer rivalry is because one or both don't want it.

Oklahoma has had a football rivalry with Texas going all the way back and included a period when they weren't in the same conference. If they could do that with 10 games, BB can do it with the 30 or so played today.

I think it would be cool if the NCAA made the non-con schedules instead of the schools

Yep that would be a great idea.

Or have a pre-season "Ozark" tournament - SLU, AR, Mizzou, Wichita State, Kansas, Memphis - be one heck of a tourney. It'll never happen of course. but there is so much that could be done to improve college basketball schedules if they used their imaginations, and changed some of the NCAA scheduling rules.

......would be awesome.....especially if held at Three Rivers in Poplar Bluff.....a nice neutral site almost close to all the teams!!!

There will always be coaches who resist putting their teams at risk. It's hard to blame them because all to often the "rankers" don't have the time or the will to check out the competition unless it's a high profile ranked team.

I wonder what the schedule would look like if every team had a legitimate power rating and had to play half their games against the higher ranked to be ranked in the polls?
