Bird Watcher Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 My cousin and I attempted a Spring Slam Today. Started out messing with Turkeys at daylight. Had a couple on the property, but they zigged and we zagged. Oh well, left them at 9 am because we had things to do. Picked 2 or 3 lbs of Asparagus out of the ditch on the way to the lake, hit mushroom spots for about 4 hours, picked 300 or so morels-most of them fist sized. Actually had to take trips back to the boat to empty our sacks in the cooler a couple times. Then, to wrap things up we knocked out 25 crappie at dusk. Should have had 30, but I kept letting them go at the boat. It just doesn't get much better than this time of year..
Bill Butts Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 BW, That is an unusual but awesome report on all facets. Today, John and I surprisingly flushed a hen turkey as we were hiking up river. To our surprise, she had been sitting on a nest of ten eggs. Beautiful day in the Ozarks! BB Bill Butts Springfield MO "So many fish, so little time"

duckydoty Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I have not picked wild asparagus since I was a little kid on my grandfathers farm in northern Indiana. Looks like you had a great day! Bird Watcher Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Thanks guys. It was a lot of gathering for sure. My cousin is about 45. He never gets out to do this kind of stuff, he has two teenage boys that play select baseball in a different city every weekend, so it was a lot of fun getting him out and dragging him around the Ozarks on an adventure all day.
