Members Ohai
My girlfriend and I have recently moved to Springfield and I was asking in another thread about local fishing areas. One fine gentleman suggested that we check out Stockton. As such we are getting off of work early around 3 p.m. and planning to head our way and should reach the lake around 4 p.m.. We are bank fishing and I'm hoping to catch some cat. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start? She is pretty new to fishing and I'm trying to get her into it but so far haven't had a lot of luck in the very local areas of Springfield. I searched the forum before I asked and a while ago some people suggested Aldrich. Is this still the spot you guys would recommend going to? dennis boatman
the east end of the hwy. 215 bridge has some good bank fishing access... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Krazo
ive seen people catching fish around the access at aldrich. but i think any lake access where you can get relatively close to the river channel in the lake should give you good catfishing. several places around there, just need to look at it on google.maps
Sac River Jim
right underneathe the CC bridge on the rip rap just toss a night crawler on a bobber a few feet off the bank and hang on for dear life. it might be a couple of weeks early for there and its quite the hike from where you park to get to it but sometimes its well worth it. Bitethis
What sacriverjim said....riprap at CC will have people lined up soon with bobbers and minnows/worms for catfish. I would try from now until June, but it would be a very good place. Aldrich is also a good place, as is Sons Creek. River channels being close is good advice, and best area. You can look up stockton maps on this forum, or go to Basspro/walmart and get a "hotspots lake map", it will give you topo information, structure, and some tips/tricks for fishing the body of water it represents. Members Ohai
Thanks all for the advice! We fished from about 5:30 to 9:30 and all but got skunked. We went just north of Aldrich. Quite a few other guys fishing next to us all seeming to have about the same luck. At about 9:30 or so some heavily intoxicated gentlemen trumped down the mountain and quickly caught a few very small crappie but other than that it was a slow day. We were using worms and cut bait but a friend I met on this forum suggested minnows so next time we go up I will try that. Will check out the riprap at CC very soon. Stockton is actually a lot closer to Springfield than I originally thought, and I feel like we will have a lot more success bank fishing up there than the local fisheries once we get a feel for the place. Bitethis
Bank fishing the sac river when the water is between 50-60f is almost like cheating...next year, catch it a bit earlier and you will kill it! You may have some success now if you plan on giving it a shot this week. Minnows on bobbers, white 1/8oz roostertails, white/chartrues swimming minnow on 1/8oz leadhead, etc. Can catch crappie and white bass, maybe a lucky walleye. There is a lot of bank access on sac river too.
