I know of many instances where rainbows have been caught in TR, but has anyone ever hooked a brown?

No one gripes about obese fish.

I don't know that there is anywhere above Table rock for brown's to get in is there?

They are in the river below Beaver dam. A couple of years ago AGFC shocked up a 25# brown up there. You'd think a few would make it down lake, but never had heard of anyone catching any except in the Beaver tailwater.

My fishing partner and I have caught several over the past 15 years. Most have come trolling for walleye but we have caught some in the spring in the KC area throwing jerkbaits. The others were in the Baxter area. All have been 2-4lb rainbows.

Very funny this thread just popped up. During the KVD tournament this weekend my Uncle's son caught a 17" trout on a fluke up in the bushes right near the spillway at the dam. I've never caught one and neither has anyone in my family and they have been fishing TR for over 40 years. Funny coincidence with this thread.

Probably 8 or 10 years ago my cousin caught a small brown on a crawler, in schooner creek. That was the first and only brown ive ever seen caught...seen a few rainbows caught over the years with crawlers.

They used to stock browns in Roaring River, first noticed it in the mid 80s, but I haven't been down there in years. Rainbows could have come in from Flat Creek as well, there is/was a hatchery around Casville at one time, my dad caught one down around the Stubblefield Access.

Very interesting thread, keep the stories coming!

Caught and released a 20" rainbow on a Texas rigged red shad 7" Culprit worm in Fall 2008 off Deer Bluff on the King's. Led to a back and fourth with DNR Fisheries Biologist Shane ? about how frequent trout could be in TR. He contended that lack of suitable oxygen content (? > 7ppm) at a trout-livable temperature year round (< 72) would limit the numbers.
This thread is the largest discussion I've seen about this topic.... anyone interested in continuing it?
