polock Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Hey guys. Taking my girls fishing this weekend but after an hr they like to get out and play. We are used to the over abundance of gravel bars around our cabin on current river. Are there any places on the lake preferably close to big cedar that are accessible by boat to let kids play on the shore? I still don't know the lake really well
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 There is an island just out from big cedar cove, that i always see boats beached on
abkeenan Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 There are quiet a few Islands around that area like Redsox suggested where people kayak or canoe to. I have even see people put up tents and stay overnight on some of the islands. Also there is Moonshine Beach not to far from Big Cedar past the dam that has a beach. It's located right next to the dam spillway and I am not sure if it is public or private but I believe it is public. Look for the Chateau on the Lake and you can't miss it.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I forgot all about moonshine beach, I think it is still public
abkeenan Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I will also mention that there is very good fishing in and around that spillway/moonshine beach area so if you wanted to get bit around there and then let the girls have their fun you are already centrally located for all of it.
denjac Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Moonshine is public, but still requires a day pass. Not sure if you can access the beach by boat as there are sign posted no boats past this point. Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I haven't seen it in a couple of years, but there used to be a nice pea gravel beach on the south side of Brush creek. It was the first cove. Brush Creek is across from the Long Creek Marine. There is also some shallows around Old 86 campground. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Not sure how old they are, but keep in mind the boat traffic. Might not be a great time to have little kids out down around the dam with all the wakes.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 That's true and I'm not sure I would want to be around the islands on a holiday. If the lake stays a couple of feet low it will make some areas more inviting. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
MOBass Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Fish from o dark thirty until jet ski and then put it on the trailer and go play in the water with the kids. It will be sporty out there this weekend, especially Sunday and Monday as they look to have the best weather. There might be a swim beach around the corner at Long Creek. There is also a little beach area next to the Big Cedar marina if you are stay there.
