Jug Fishing/bait

Camping at Nemo next weekend and would like to throw out a few jugs. Any suggestions on what the best bait is? Should I just catch some perch or get goldfish and hook em up? I have only jug fished once in my life and it was there at Nemo. Only thing I caught was a circle hook in my thumb which won me a trip to the ER. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I prefer to anchor them and leave them over night but I can free float them and stay with them in the evening. Thanks.

I don't have a net for shad and wouldn't even know how to do it. Is there a bait shop close to Nemo that sells them? I am probably only putting out a few so I won't need very many.

im on stockton lake and i use bait shrimp.I catch more cats and less turtles on shrimp.I dont like going and looking for the shad so Its just alot easier for me to use shrimp.Use live perch, bluegill for flatheads.I need bigger jugs for flatheads. Here is one of the nicer ones i caught yesterday on shrimp.

Thats a nice one. I have never fished for catfish at the lake, only ponds, so this is all new to me. Will probably take me a few times to figure it out but hopefully I will.

how deep are your hooks on those jugs? and do you fish stationary jugs or do you let them free float? ive tried both at stockton and i find the stationary ones get hung up & snag while the free floaters float a mile in the wind. but i dont think either one out fishes the other. my hooks on the floating jugs are usually set at least 10' - 15'deep but ive been thinking about adjusting them to around 4'-8'. is that too shallow if im fishing around aldrich or turkey creek.

In my opinion krazo for this time of year no its not to shallow. Especially now through the summer the cats will be on theflats north and south of the bridge at aldrich. we usually drift shad on the north flat in 6-12 fow after the spawn till sept or so. this year I'm going to do it with free floating jugs as well cause it covers more water. right now they should be easy to find around the rock under bridges unti they spawn and then the females will move back to the flats to feed while males guard the nest. I'm going friday to ruark to fish the rocks. I also use shrimp when fishing around the rocks. good luck and good fishing!!!

my Powerade jugs have 20ft on them and if im in 15ft of water i will set them 10-12ft deep.i put some of the line in the jug and then put the cap on and it will lock it at that depth.I find a calm cove out of the wind and scatter 15-20 jugs right at daylight and then i go fish the banks or just troll around untill the jugs start bouncing. If theres not many boaters around i will scatter a bunch of them and let the wind blow them across the cove.I have better luck in 15-20ft of water. My jugs tend to get caught up in shallow water and im in a pontoon.I have never fished the Aldrich side of the lake.I am usually on the west side from 215 to the dam.
