Members Casey Jeaux Posted December 21, 2014 Members Posted December 21, 2014 Academy has the Elite 5 HDI for $299 this week. If you can swing it, they also have the Elite 7 HDI for $449. These both have sonar, DI, GPS. Haulin Bass 1
Members lundone Posted December 21, 2014 Members Posted December 21, 2014 The placement of the transducer in relationship to water interference is important to get a clear sonar picture. The books are not very clear on this so if you haven't done this before you might want to enlist someone who has.
Members Haulin Bass Posted December 23, 2014 Members Posted December 23, 2014 like Cerckson,,,, I really wanted to get some new electronics LAST YEAR, but it wasn't in the budget. I looked at everything, and I kept coming back to the Lowrance 7HDI. But it was like $599.99 last year! I have a question, if I want both, front and rear. (*Rear being on my dash board, and front being by my Captain's Chair), what would be a good priced combo??? (Lowrance/Hummingbird) But what 2 work well together? I was thinking the 5xHDI for the front, and the 7HDI for the rear. (* And if I had $750.00 RIGHT NOW to Academy, and jump on that deal C.J. just mentioned!) p.s. I am also still looking at Hummingbird too, so I want to hear from anyone with a good opinion. Does Hummingbird have a good combo deal? (*I've heard a lot of good things about that 598 too.) *(tax returns coming soon, and I'm getting my electronics before my wife spends the rest of it on stupid stuff *like bills,,,,pfffft!)
Members austin14 Posted December 23, 2014 Members Posted December 23, 2014 I found out that the colored graphs are hard to read in direct sunlight. But an eagle 480 is a pretty good graph to look for.
Members cerckson Posted December 24, 2014 Author Members Posted December 24, 2014 Well i went to academy saturday night. Sold out of the Lowrance Elite 5. So i went online and got it from Academy website. Should have saved the trip and done that anyway. How user friendly is the Elite 5. Im just a novice fisherman that don't get to go all that often. (Work out of state) I know I will just have to play with it and figure it out. <img src="<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p690/cerickson1978/DSCN3005_zpsdc76c1e1.jpg'>http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p690/cerickson1978/DSCN3005_zpsdc76c1e1.jpg"</a>alt="DSCN3005_zpsdc76c1e1.jpg"> Just an ole construction worker that likes to tractor pull. Sac River Jim Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I just bought an r93 ranger with bird 797's on it. 797ci gps on the front and the 797 si unit on the console. Ive replaced them with 898's front and back. the kid i bought the boat from took it crappie fishing one last time and drug the si tranducer off the back but the ci gps unit works fine. i'm going to sell them but i want to go ahead and find an si transducer and ck out the side imaging unit before i sell it.
Members Casey Jeaux Posted December 26, 2014 Members Posted December 26, 2014 Watch the You Tube videos. They give a pretty good basic understanding of the functions before going to the lake.
