Ned, Schmed....ditto. Harold Ensley had a similar deal called the Purple Reaper 50 years ago but the hooks weren't nearly as sharp...(but its a lot more of a pc name than the Table Rock Turd)?

That old Reaper was quite a bit different. It had a flat tail and it did not have any action so to speak. He caught Lake Trout on it in Great Slave Lake and I believe Great Bear at that time they would pretty much hit an unbaited silver hook up there.

Yes the bait is a 5.8 If you lay it out and measure it with the boot expanded it is closer to 8 inches. I knocked off the pointed head and put that jig head on it. the jig head is 1.5 inches long so it is a pretty bit bait.

Will post some pics of everything I was using when I get my breath caught. Its 4:40 AM and I'm out the door.

It was just one of those nights, I haven't had that many fish come unbuttoned collectively all year. All you can do is grin and bear it. We were just happy to get on them pretty good.

The background in your first picture looks very familiar. There aren't usually any fish on that point.

Old Mill Rd., I am just curious, what was the configuration of the hook you were losing those fish on. With a 60° shank and horrisonal tie, that's hard to figure out unless it's one of those nights when you're just a little hair triggered. With a 90° hook like in Bill's picture you will thin hook most of your fish as shown in his picture.

We weren't throwing swimmers. My son lost one on a Texas rig, she made a hard run at the boat and by the time he caught up with her, she came up and head shook and threw the hook. I lost 3 on a different bait all together.

interesting read about losing bass. over the many years that i have fished, i have spent enormous amounts of hours studying the hooking mechanics of the various lures and hooks we fish with. many of our lost fish are not due to anything that the fisherman did wrong, but was a failure mechanical wise in the hooking process because of what we are fishing with. many times, it is more a matter of luck of getting a bass in the boat because it was hook poorly. the other thing that many do not realize is how many times they set the hook, and their lures or hook comes out without hooking anything. over the years, i have won a lot of money from not losing my bites. i have been on that end of losing bass long ago, and i never did like it. i always want to touch them. isn't it bill dance that is saying that all the time?? sounds like you had the bass figured out though. you were right in there with some darn good bassers.

Good night for you and Trevor. Sorry about the lost fish, those would have made a huge difference at the scale.

Thanks, Tim. I am just grateful for each and every minute I get to spend on the lake with my son.

I think he is being pretty quiet on that OTHER bait.

Bill, my memory is really getting.......what the hell were we talking about?
