tippet7 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 We constructed a trellis for our cucumber and beans. Yesterday's storm ripped them out of the ground and took some beans with them. The cucumbers were partially out of the ground. The trellis wound up laying on some tomato plants. Are beans and cucumbers hardy enough to survive the stress? You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I don't know about the beans, but the cukes should recover. This slow growth period from the rain and lack of sunshine should actually help them. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ness Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I'd just cut out anything that isn't going to make it now, rather than let it die. Unless you got damage way down to the main stems they'll probably make a comeback. Beans are kinda fragile, especially early on. John
Sac River Jim Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 i imagine it shocked your beans pretty good but i bet the cukes will be fine.
jdmidwest Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 If the plants start turning colors and looking poor, pull them out to prevent disease from spreading to others. Probably not much you can really do, I am sure you have a mud pit now like everyone else with this rain event. Tromping around a muddy garden really compacts it if you have clay soil too. You can always replant, it is early and looks like plenty of moisture this year. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
tippet7 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 This is what it looked like before the storm. We used small landscaping staples to secure the trellis. We will get larger ones this weekend. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
