semble Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I've got an employee that fishes LOZ for crappie. His birthday is coming up and I thought it would be a nice to give him some custom jigs. What are some of the hot colors for the lake? Thanks!
WHARFRAT Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I have always used black/chartreuse. But lately since the water has been so clear, I"ve been using bone/chartreuse, ice blue, blue/chartreuse. I think anything as long as it's got some chartreuse in it. If I'm casting, I like soft plastics, like Bobby Garland Slab Slayers, BG Baby Shad, or something similar. if I'm dipping straight down, I like hair jigs. don't forget the Berkley Crappie Nibs! @lozcrappie
nomolites Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Ditto the chartreuse. If I had to pick only one pattern it would be black and chartreuse which is awesome in stained water. Lately in gin clear water a white/chartreuse or a clear/metalflake slider on a road runner style head have been better but black/chart still catches fish.
Dutch Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 If you are close to a bait and tackle store go buy him a bunch of Bobby Garland's baby shad. Most of his colors catch crappie well.
WHARFRAT Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 ELECTRIC CHICKEN Love that electric chicken last fall/early winter. I had to go out and buy a bunch of that. It was on fire there for a while. Has been so-so this spring for me. Red/chart was also pretty hot during the prespawn time. @lozcrappie
MOsmallies Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 These in Blue Ice... http://www.basspro.com/Bobby-Garland-Baby-Shad/product/100132/ These in Pearl or Chartreuse Pearl... http://www.basspro.com/Bobby-Garland-Baby-Shad/product/100132/ Black & Chartreuse for tube type baits or swimmin grubs. Pick up some 1/16 oz roadrunners for him as well

I'd have to say that the best pattern I was able to put together this past Spring during the spawn was 1/16oz chart head, blue body, bone tail.
semble Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 don't forget the Berkley Crappie Nibs! I was thinking about throwing a jar of nibs in, too.
