The crappie are definitely moving full-bore into their summertime haunts. I caught these in 20-25 FOW near channel swings and in standing timber. All fish caught on Bobby Garland Minnow Mind'rs in blue/chartreuse on a 1/16 oz jig head.

We couldn't get them to bite the Bobby Gs that much today.

Ok, call me a hungry fisherman. :) if it's a fish, it's a fish.

What else is he gonna do when "some" other people are catching all the other good sized fish. Maybe he should get a 6" handicap kind of like what they do in golf?

Nathan I sat down for about 30 or 45 minutes and he grabbed MY Fishing Pole I had been catching them on and Nothing. I picked up his and put a crappie in the boat in a matter of minutes. It was Payback for the last time we went and he beat me. I swear he sees me pick up the XPS and fear settles in I know a few words are said lol. That dam spoon is just pure evil what it can do to fish.

Well a few trips ago, you were beating me like a pimp on a ........well. :-) After we determined that fishing line must have been the reason you were beating me because I was using the same baits you were and you were still pounding them, I decided to see if the line color was having any affect this time as well. We were again both using the same baits in the same presentations but your line was clear, my line was green. I didn't really think it would have any affect but every experiment needs to be thoroughly tested. :-) I watched how you were working your bait and would mimic just to make sure that I was matching the presentation. I also fished from the front using the graph. The wind was strong and the boat would drift faster than I could get the bait down to the fish. Make it much harder to work a jig properly when your line has an arch or a 30-degree drift angle.

No, line color did not have as much of an affect as provide in (1) single fish BUT....................

Things that should be noted for clarity for a true apples to apples comparison:

What F&F used:

- He had 3-4 spider rigged crappie jigs with 2-jigs per rod

(he doubled up some baby stripers once on a spider rod)

- So his baits were on or near the bottom the whole time

- He was catching most fish on the jigging spoon

- Crappie jigs only produced a few fish

- Even wihen trolling, his rod would load up with fish, mine would not

What I used:

- I'm fishing from the back of the boat with 1 rod using the same jigging spoon with same presentation

- I had (2) rods with 1/8oz crappie jigs that were drifting way too high behind the boat (guessing 6-12ft off the bottom depending on drift) and fish were directly on the bottom)

I obviously can feel a very subtle bite by the size of the proof shown above.

Another factor is that he turned off the rear graph and used the front graph only. I never knew if we were over fish directly or not. Just assumed we were.

When drifting and having a jigging spoon 10-15ft behind the boat, it pays to know when to reel in, and drop again when you're all of the sudden directly over fish. YOu have to have the bait in their face to get a bite when they are lock-jawed. So advantage goes to F&F for using the front graph.

The other factor is that he IS a freakin' human sane net. I am obviously not.

You must have been out of the wind to catch them using a 16oz jig head. Those things take a while to get down and with any wind, it's that much tougher to place it exactly where you want it.

I used to try and use 1/16oz or smaller and once I went to 1/8oz, they seem to work better in calm or windy conditions. Better range for a cast and just gets the bait down to the depth you want faster.

I have been accused of that by more than just you lol.

Actually the graph was only keeping us on a very specific depth, the only thing you failed to see I kept looking to the left right and front more than the graph I had made 3 land marks as reference points where the crappie were in orientation to them the graph was the fourth for the bottom depth. And you weren't working the jig the way I was you had a more gentle sweep to it I was popping it hard that why my arm was getting soar. You ain't figured out all the tricks youngling. But bribery with coffee is getting you there.
