Members marknsaw Posted June 28, 2014 Members Posted June 28, 2014 I haven't ordered any. they have just been listed as "available" at cabela's.com for a couple weeks. I'm 'tween vacations and haggling on a new motor so I have to keep it close to the vest. I'll definitely order a few after I get back next week. glad to hear it's not just me with the pro slicks!!
fishinwrench Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Hmmm...maybe your fluorocarbon is larger diameter than what I'm using. I can hit the same depth as the 7 Flicker Shad or maybe a foot plus or minus. I tend to run 120 to 130 feet back. Just something to chew on here; I run various boats across the same piece of water regularly and I don't think I've ever seen two depthfinders read the same, and the differences in reading between the different setups often varies as much as 3-4ft in water over 10', and as much as 2' in shallower flats. Hell, surface temp readings between various setups are more in sync than the depth readings are when compared to "actual". You can calibrate some units, but if they are the type that always boot up in AUTO MODE then you loose your calibration adjustment everytime you turn it off. My point here is that if your are assessing a crankbaits depth by using the info you get from your LCR unit then the s#it ain't gonna jive when you're in your buddys boat. So what is the acceptable margin for error when it comes to trolling crankbaits ?
Feathers and Fins Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Glen to me it must be exact for the type of fishing I do while trolling. I know for instance my module is 1' under water when trolling and I adjusted the unit for keel depth so it shows true depth from ( -1 + 2.0 = 0 water level ) then to verify the depth im running the baits at I have a long flat that is verified 20fow by dropping line down and then measuring the line with a tape. I repeat this all the way up to 5fow and check it against the depth finder. Then run different baits on the flat till they hit bottom to make the determination of how deep they actually get. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
kjackson Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 I'm not the Zen Master of Trolling like some, and I've not been as scientific about it as Scott. I definitely follow the lead there. My perception is that the 7 Smash Shad runs as deep as the 7 Flicker Shad. But maybe it doesn't. I do know that I've had good luck catching fish with both, and perhaps better luck with the SS--especially the UV purple tiger. Dunno, y'know. It will be interesting to find out...
rangerman Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 In regards to the pro slick colors. I have done so so on them. Crappie at loz loved them. Walleye at bull shoals kinda liked them. However forewarning the finish is not very durable at all from what I've experienced. Walleye teeth seem to scrape the finish off pretty bad.
