Wayne SW/MO Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 You can take a big bobber or float and rig it to slip. Cast it out and pull the weight up to the bobber, then just count how many lengths of line, generally from reel to first guide, it takes to lay it over. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 It really doesn't matter how deep it is unless there's something down there that fish want. There's really no need to "pattern fish" a 5 acre pond....just fish it ALL. I think you'll find that almost every decent fish that comes from small-med sized ponds will bite within 10' of the bank, regardless of the available depth.
