bfishn Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I picked up carryout at Arthur's the evening that Jimmy Carter had been there for lunch... seems like such a short time ago. I can't dance like I used to.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I hope he got fries, wrapped in brown paper. Hard to beat Bryants fries in spite of everyone making them. Maybe it's the grease soaked paper they came in? I assume they still throw in 2 pieces of white bread, fries and the meat on a peace of butchers paper and wrap it? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
bfishn Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Last time I was there the only thing changed since the '70s was they'd taken those old 5 gallon bottles of sauce out of the front window. Maybe they finally got 'ripe' :-) I can't dance like I used to.
ness Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Yeah, Wayne -- they still do it in the butcher's paper with bread. I'm not a big fan of their limp fries, or their standard sauce for that matter. But they do a good job on the rest and they have other sauces that are more my style -- sweet with a little heat. I've been to their restaurant near the racetrack a couple times now. They haven't got it figured out there and I'm done giving them my money. I think AB's is riding a lot on reputation these days. Mediocre food in that high-dollar real estate won't last. bfshn -- I remember the big jug in the window. I always thought it looked kinda nasty. Jug all dusty, some sort of scum on the surface. It was a good call getting rid of them. Not much else has changed though. John
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I'm not a fan of their original sauce either. My son likes it for cased meats though. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
