mojorig Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Here is the latest Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature readings for Bull Shoals Lake for the Dam and Point 6 areas taken on 7-28-14. If you want to receive these readings on a more constant basis, please consider joining the Twin Lakes Walleye Club. I believe the membership dues are very reasonable (~ $20). They graciously donate this information to the MDC and AGFC. As for the readings, you can see a thermocline is now around 30-35 foot. However, fish could easily be found at 50, 60 or even 70 feet deep right now. As always, I hope this information will help you on your next fishing trip!! rps Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I see that the DO is higher below the thermocline. That makes it very tough as there is no artificial floor to how deep they may be.
Bluff-Bassin Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I see that the DO is higher below the thermocline. That makes it very tough as there is no artificial floor to how deep they may be. Lots of room for them to hide. Thanks again for posting. Really enjoy these.
mojorig Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Actually, I was incorrect. The thermocline is from 35 to 45 feet at the dam and 30 to 35 feet at point 6. Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
packersooner Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Wow...this is very telling. Looks like the thermocline starts kicking in between 30 and 35 feet. Temps above that are very isothermal. But yeah, the dissolved oxygen below that level is plenty sufficient to hold fish. Bluff-Bassin is right, lots of room for them to spread out vertically. I just have to wonder if the cold winter and the overall weather pattern being 2-3 weeks behind is having a play here. In other words, is the lake is currently in a mid-July pattern? It has certainly been tough sledding on the walleye front. Jason
mojorig Posted August 5, 2014 Author Posted August 5, 2014 The walleye club anglers have been catching walleye and bass around 40 to 45 feet right now. Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
packersooner Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Thanks for the info mojorig. Any ideas if they are on flats, points, over the submerged forest, etc.? Jason
