rps Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Today, my favorite vendor at the farmers market had two bunches of cayenne. He also had candy onion. The Mennonite vendor had some red hot pepper he described as between a serrano and a jalapeno. Later at the grocery store I bought jalapeno and habanero. When I came home I made a batch of the traditional (several generations old) bread and butter pickle brine. (5 cups sugar, 3 cups apple cider vinegar, 2 Tbs. mustard seed, 1.5 teaspoons each of celery seed and turmeric, boiled) I used the traditional pickle method as well and wound up with these:

Wayne SW/MO Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I've been doing B & B's lately and have started on dills. Where is this farmers maket, Branson area I presume? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

rps Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 The wife and I went into Fayetteville Saturday and hit their farmers market. The diversity of NWA has really improved the markets. Traditional farmers, organics only hippies, Asians and Latinos all compete and the produce is beyond belief. Reminds me of London, but without the cheeses and fish. Anyway, I bought four quarts of cayenne peppers and a pint of serrano, as well as some candy onions. This morning I have sanitized jars, sliced onions, and seeded and pithed the peppers. The fruit headed to the jars: The rest headed to elsewhere: By this afternoon I will have multiple jars of sweet heat.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Looks, ah, hot! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
