Amery Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Slayed em last night. Caught multiple 17-18" smallmouth, caught a largemouth that went the same. Threw a black buzz bait and a black hula grub. Probably caught 15-20 total and my buddy did the same although he seemed to loose the big girls. Best night fishing experience in my life. Only saw one meth head and one cottonmouth. Not bad for southern Missouri.

Members Flakjkt Posted August 18, 2014 Members Posted August 18, 2014 Nice! We're you above Noel or below? I always find the best fishing is below.
Amery Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Way upstream. I will have to try below Noel sometime.
Members Flakjkt Posted August 18, 2014 Members Posted August 18, 2014 Way upstream. I will have to try below Noel sometime. Below Noel there is a huge shad population due to the fact it is a short run straight into grand lake. There is a darn at Noel that prevents much of that bio mass from going on up your way. Those bass grow into pigs with all that bait not counting how many come straight from the lake.
hoglaw Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I've fished above and below a lot. I've caught more big ones above. Never night fished below though. That's a long float to commit to in the dark.
Amery Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 I bet the lower reaches are not as wadable.

Yeah Amery it's not nearly as wader friendly. Great day float though. Tan bitsy bug in log jams is always my biggest ticket on numbers and size.
npierceuark Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Glad to hear you got into them. I floated sat night and did pretty well. It was tough with the cloud cover and half moon but managed to do some damage. Have to love the tranquility on that river during the night, beats the heck out of the redneck yacht club during the day, though we did pass by 4-5 fiestas on the bank. One even had a DJ booth and disco ball haha, no joke
