Members Grillas80 Posted August 31, 2014 Members Posted August 31, 2014 Does anyone know how the fishing is around the Shelvin Rock access area?
Mofloatjunkie Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I usually do really good on goggle eye in the deep water just down from the boat ramp. Another place I do good there is just past the rapids where the water starts to get deep. I have pulled many nice smallmouth out of there. Fish slow. Thats what seems to work for me there.
jbooth24 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I here it can be good from what I here. I haven't fished that part of the James yet this year plan on doing that sometime soon

moguy1973 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Mofloatjunkie, Are the rapids too hard to come back upstream against in a kayak? If they are bring along a 12-15' long rope to tie to the front of your kayak and drag it up the fast spots. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Mofloatjunkie Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I second moguy1973. Just bring a rope and pull it if you can't paddle up. Another place you might try is under the hwy 14 bridge just downstream. Lots of structure around there.
