Billfo Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I received an older 24V MinnKota foot control trolling motor from a friend (was his fathers). It has a 24v plug. How can I test this to see if (1) it works, & (2) to see if it is wired compatable with my 24V outlet. Thanks for the suggestions. Bill Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
fishinwrench Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 To test the 24v terminal on your boat (to see which side is Hot and which is Gnd.) You can either look at the back of the plug, or use a decent digital voltmeter that will read reversed polarity. If it shows -24v (minus 24v) then your black test lead is your Hot side. If the motor is straight 24 (2-wire) but your boat is wired for 12/24 (3-wire) then you'll need to terminate the 12v side of the boat wiring clear back to the battery.
Billfo Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Ok thanks for the idea... Will give that a shot next time I go to the lake house. Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
