All my years here I have caught very few from mid oct to next yr when the water starts to get near 50 degrees. And then it was spooning which I like except for walleye if you get a short one. They do not do well coming up from deep water. I hate to see their badder in their mouth. The last two years have been different so they might go shallow this fall, which would be nice. I just never hold my breath on catching them, it seems every time out, I learn something different. The walleyes yesterday were caught on point/flat. If you looked to the shore it appeared there was no point but on the map/gps you could see the shallow area coming out under the surface of the water. After the first successful stop I just looked for and fished those type of areas. Will they be there today, maybe but I never count on it. The thing I have found out on this lake if you catch a couple spend a little time and and determine why, then look for them and fish for them the same way. But maybe tomorrow it will be different. That's why it's called fishin.

I think to much juice on earlier posts.

Wife and I are going out tomorrow if wx is good. Will try same places to see if the are still there, if not the search will be on. Hopefully I'll be able to report success or eat crow and get an earfull from the queen.

Nathan, to answer your question on the walleye coming up. Yes they do come shallow! I was talking to Doc last night about a area we both fish in Oct and Nov and this front will probably put them there. They also get on flats where shad are present, October is usually a very good month for me on both Crappie and Walleye.

Look for them from 15 to 25ft and expect them to be from the bottom to top depending on water temp, they do suspend a lot and its not uncommon to mark a big wad of crappie suspending in open water and see a couple big marks next to them and when you troll over them you end up with a nice walleye.

The new flicker minnows are so far working good IMO still more testing to do on them though. Had three so far right out the box that were good and 1 that I had to adjust almost 25 degree's to get it to track straight. Depth the #9's are getting to is 23fow with 140ft of 10lb seagar fluorocarbon. Unlike flickers though them ticking bottom is much more subtle for some reason. There should be a Warning on their Package though that they attract BIG Catfish.

Full report on the flicker minnows in a couple weeks after more testing is done.

Great, thanks for the info. I did not get out last night so I have nothing to show. :(

Not sure how much time I'll get to spend fishing in the coming weeks. I am full swing in my house project and deer season is coming quick. I'll be keeping an eye on the forum thought and will for sure report when I get out.

Thanks for all the help over the last year. This has been a good one for sure!

Did you catch a big catfish on a flicker minnow? How big and what species? Thanks.
