Quillback Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 At the same time a gaggle of high school recruits are visiting Lexington. Apparently within NCAA recruiting rules. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--kentucky-coach-john-calipari-finalizing-unprecedented-scouting-combine-for-nba-personnel-141704100.html
ozark trout fisher Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I'm starting to think the NCAA needs an "anti-Calipari" rule. That is, the test to see if something is shady enough to be against bylaws is whether Calipari does it. Because he has found every loophole in existence and every way to skirt the rules (at least when he isn't breaking them outright.)
Bird Watcher Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I guess I'm different. I'm more of a "don't hate the player, hate the game" when it comes to this. The culprit is the one and done rule, not the coach that has found a way to exploit it, IMO. this wouldn't be an issue if the age requirement was, say, 21 to enter the NBA.
Quillback Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Yep Calipari is a master of working the system. Makes a mockery out of the whole student-athlete thing, he's basically running an NBA prep school.
stlfisher Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Not saying I agree with what he is doing, but it sounds a bit like a pro day that many college football teams already have. I can see how it would be a distraction to have scouts constantly at practices during the season, but I don't buy that as the whole story at all. Certainly part of this seems to be about impressing recruits as well. I bet we see more of this in short order especially with the other top programs.
