How big is the biggest bass anyone's seen come from fellows? Was talking to an older man on the dock over the weekend who said the conservation did a shock survey a few years back and said more then one fish over 12lbs came up?

My biggest was a six pounder when the water was up. Pitching to flooded bushes in the early spring. I wouldn't doubt that there are some big bass in the lake. This was about 10 years ago when I was still in highschool. Used to skip school and go fishing at fellows quite abit. Haven't been on the lake in probably 8 years.

I have had a 7 pound 3 oz largemouth that came out of fellows and a lot of 5 to 6 pounders. There is some nice bass in Fellows. I have also landed some very nice white bass in Fellows. And best of all I have landed some of the biggest Walleye I have caught in Missouri out of Fellows!

A friend of mine has one he caught mounted on his wall that went over 10lbs. We caught a lot of bass over 5lbs. I started fishing it back in 1997 it was not that uncommon to catch a 4lb bass just about every time I went to the lake. The past few years its got harder, I think the muskies have something to do with it.

I think the more likely cause is the lack of catch and release ethic. How many large fish can consistently be kept before the large fish population depletes? Just look at the Fellows Lake Marina websites that show only a small portion of the big fish that are constantly kept.

I totally agree with you on this one KVD. When I moved to Springfield 37 years ago I fished the Springfield area lakes for bass n crappie primarily every weekend. I watched people take the brood stock of these species in extreme numbers. Crappie were being kept that were full of eggs and were in the 12 to 15 in range by the 5 gallon bucket fulls...I would unhook a female crappie and drop it back in the water and get looks like I was crazy. I have moved closer to Table Rock and the James river, but still come to Spfld to fish these lakes because I am more familiar with them...but I am at a point where I am done there because I feel that every fish I catch there anymore is critical....I release everything I catch now because it is just become that bad.

Winter/Spring bass on a jerk bait - I miss being out there, as I caught these two years ago now. 5.2, 6.1, and 6.11 lbs respectively. Fellows bass seem to love the channels and flats - especially where cover is nearby (weed beds, chunk rock, transitions, etc.)
