Andy & JoAnne Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 This year the level of my home SMB water is dropping dramatically (most in more than a decade). From the photos, not only is the surface area diminished, but it looks as though the water is very muddy. This lake is crystal clear at normal levels. I was wondering what type of impact this may have on the fishery in the next couple of years. I have Googled this to the ends of the Earth but can't find anything definitive. Thought maybe some of you can chime in.
Guest Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I dont know, but droughts & drawdowns concentrate massive schools of fish. I would try to locate them near the dam area, could be a topwater feast.
fishinwrench Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 The future of lake Tapps fishing looks very good according to Wikipedia. If I were you I would take advantage of the low water level and build some fish holding structure (rock pile s, stake beds, ect.). And take note of any that already exist.

Definitely taking advantage of the low water levels in that respect. The lake is loaded with structure and I am using my GPS to mark specific locations. It's good to hear that the future looks good. I'm looking into buying a canoe to take advantage of the looming "concentration" that TrophyFishR mentioned. Boat ramps are 100% exposed right now. Hopefully I will be able to share some pics soon.
Quillback Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I've seen some pictures of smallies being caught out of American lake this summer. Might be good close option if Tapps is in bad shape.

Plus it gets fished pretty hard.
