merc1997 Bo Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 well, our little outing dinging around the big m area turned out not too bad. it was a spinner bait bite. did not catch the numbers, but had better quality. ended up with 6 keepers with three of those in the 3 to 3 3/4 range. of the three smaller keeps two were around 2 3/4 and the last was a keeper kentucky. all were caught on the black widow with a # 7 colorado blade. we tried several sizes and types of blades, and the # 7 was the deal. we were fishing the 3/8 weight. one other thing that i noticed was there was lots of minnow activity on the bank where we did catch fish. bo

Most all of our fish came around areas with surface minnow activity.

Champ188 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Good trip, bo. Glad to hear there are some better fish up shallow. May try to steal off up that way Thursday when it's cloudy/rainy and see if my shallow bite produces some bigger fish.
merc1997 Bo Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 i would think that on a good cloudy day with a bit of breeze, they will be up. just have to try some different techniques to figure out what will get bites. the minnow activity on the bank is a key though, i think. bo
Champ188 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Agreed on the minnow/shad activity. That's been key in the areas where Donna and I have been catchin' em.
tapout Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 A little late but I also caught a few decent LM very shallow on 28th with spook. Not many bites but decent fish and they would just hammer it. Fun. Noted the minnows up on bank also. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
