decided to get out and brave the cold for a bit this afternoon. was really interested in seeing if there were any big shad schools bunched up, but never found any at all.

so, we dug out a couple of 3/4 Blitz football jigs and dinged around in Big Creek. caught about 15 in a couple of hours with 3 being keepers. about half and half lmg and kentuckies. there was not any pattern to the depth of bites, 15 to 60 feet deep. yep, caught 2 right on the bottom 60 ft. deep. two bites were in 15, and the bulk 35 to 50. bluegill was our best color with a green pumpkin trailer.

by the way, i used 50# florescent braid, and the guy fishing with me was using 12# floro, and i caught most of the bass. would i have caught more bass using floro??, or does it not make any difference in color and type of line?? guess you be the judge , but i have used florescent line for daytime fishing for eons, and braid is such an advantage when fishing extreme depths for hook setting.

After 15-20ft, I don't think color is as big a factor as vibration is always a factor.

I've learned recently that a kinked line or small fray will give off vibration. Lose the kink or fray and you start catching fish again.

Bass jigs in 60ft. I gotta do that one day.

60 ft deep with jigs lol just sounds crazy

If you find the fish in 60 ft they will thump anything that comes by. Hook sets are very important when fishing that deep.

since we had bounced a spoon on the bottom in the same area at 60ft., i was quite surprised to get a bite on the jig. too many people let fishing deep get to them. in all actuality, it is the same as fishing in 6 inches of water. it just takes longer to get to the bottom. what i should have tried yesterday, but did not because of the small amount of time we had, was to use a 1/4 NuJig coupled with at least a 1/2 oz. bullet weight added to the line. they just might have bit the smaller profile better, but it would require adding the sinker to have enough weight for fishing at those depths.

it just seems that the bass are just really scattered. it is the trolling motor pattern. put the trolling motor down and keep fishing :have-a-nice-day: .

Nope, has to be a NuJig. Not a Jewel, Bass-X, War Eagle or any other jig ... a NuJig.

Guess they know what they want. I'm familiar with fish like that. Lol

champ i have noticed that your bass only like war eagle spinner baits :have-a-nice-day: . guess we both have them trained to bite what we like to throw.

Yes, I always throw War Eagle. But I don't preface every single reference to a spinnerbait with the brand. Starts to wear on the nerves after a while. Kind of counterproductive at that point.

Biggest fish I've ever caught at night came on a salt craw with two 7/16 oz. bullet weights. I credit the two bullet weights slapping together making noise. I totally had both of them on there by accident. When my buddy unhooked the fish he said why in the world are you using two bullet weights. I didn't even know it. It continued to work the rest of the night. Great idea using one on a jig!
