Wayne SW/MO Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 My son says the power is off in Fair Grove and the ice is thick and breaking some pretty stout branches. Have there been any power outages in Taney County? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Rolan Duffield Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Sunday Jan. 14th. We left Branson this morning heading home to Kansas City. It had rained Friday and Saturday in Branson. Very hard rain at times on Saturday. They predicted another front moving in today so we decided to try and get home before the storm hit. About 10 miles north of Branson started seeing ice on trees, though the pavement was clear. (Great job by the highway crews.) Approaching Springfield we did not see any homes or businesses with lights on, a bad sign. Reports were that Springfield had 90% of power out. Trees annd power lines were covered with ice. Tree limbs bent over and snapped off or touching the ground. This pattern was evident all the way to Bolivar, continually seeing branches pulling down power lines and no lights in many areas. Continued to see some ice on trees all the way to Clinton. Approaching Clinton, it started raining and the temp dropped to 24 degrees. Our windshield started icing up and it became difficult to keep it clean. Nearing the southern part of KC we started running into ice and sleet conditions. Reports are thar we will have the ice and some snow tonight. Made it home safely. Always glad to be home on days like this. Sorry the weather created so many problems for people. Missed you guys at Phils classes. We'll try again. Rolan
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 15, 2007 Root Admin Posted January 15, 2007 Thanks Rolan. We will do it again. It's amazing to me that just a few miles north and west of here is so much damage and lack of power. We've just had the rain we've all been praying for... for years now. Table Rock has come up almost 2 feet and will continue for several days. Taney is running 4 full which is a welcomed sight. The lack of traffic on the site today reflects the fact there's alot of people either out of power or have other more important things to do than view and write on forums.
LostMyWife Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 All we got was rain. And we got lots of rain. Our lake came up over 2 feet in the last 4 days. We are 12 inches below full pool and 2 inches above the no wake line. For the first time in 14 months, our lake is above the no wake line and is open to boating. Now if I can just get the lift guy to raise the legs so I can get to my boat. I wonder if he has a heated wetsuit? Yes, I'm That Guy
Flysmallie Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 The last three days we have been living a nightmare. Springfield is a disaster. We lost power about 11:30 Friday night. We made it through the night, very cold. My parents still had power in Republic so we headed there to ride this one out. Then about 8:00 last night the whole town lost power. Once again we stuck it out. Had called about hotel rooms but there were none and waiting lists with as many as 100 people already on them. After a very cold night we headed back to Springfield. My sister lost part of her house to a fire a couple of weeks ago and had a suite at the Residence Inn in Springfield. We went by there to get warmed up and a shower. We got lucky and the people there found us a room. I left two of my daughters with my sister and headed to the house with my wife and other daughter to get more clothes and to make sure that place was still standing. It looks like a bomb went off in my backyard. When I get back there I will take some pictures and post them. Well after all that we made it back to the hotel about 6:00pm and just as we pulled in and parked all the power went out. I was beginning to think that I was living in hell. My wife cried, my kids were crying, it's a mess. Finally around 10:00pm the power came back on. What a relief. We get one warm night. Don't know what we will do in the morning. They said we could stay here as long as we needed the room, but at $140 per night I don't think I can stay for long. Everybody stay warm and safe out there.
Steve Smith Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Cassville got hit bad too over the weekend. Trees and powerlines are down everywhere, but not as bad as north of us. Oddly enough, Roaring River park was protected from the storm. I fished over the weekend and there is no ice anywhere along the river. I could look up the hill and see the ice line that stopped about 100 feet from the top of the ridge. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO

brittsnbirds Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Up here South of KC we had frezzing rain, w/ a little drizzle from about 1100 through the rest of the day/night. Got up this AM and the snow was starting. Looks like it is picking up a little. Roads were very slushy last night when I ran out to salt the Mother in laws and mom's drive. Looks like the county roads are still ice/snow covered. The wife took off with my Chevy (4-wheel) for some appointments. She tried to get me to go but I've got some tying to do. Her parting words were "don't hold it against me if I wreck your truck". My words were something like "if you do then I guess an '07, 4 door is in my future!" I was even thinking about making a day trip down to BSP.
