Ive been reading and listening to a few stations today and hearing a ton of complaints like we didn't all expect that to happen. A lot of it centers around what the committee said they would make the top priority ( Strength of schedule ) and most of it centers around FLst and how weak they were in that yet still gets in. Many of the other arguments said YES TOP 4 RECORDS didn't matter about strength of schedule just records so why did we have a committee?

I do have to say I do agree with some of the arguments especially around FLst, Cant say I don't agree with them Baylor and TCU IMO are more deserving than fl but that's my opinion, Oh well we knew there would be controversy.

I like that.

With regards to FSU and strength of schedule. I'd agree it wasn't that tough, but they did schedule Okie State, ND, and Florida. While those teams were down this year, they have no way of knowing that going in. The only real cupcake was Citadel. Baylor didn't really even attempt a tough out of conference schedule. Florida State and they haven't lost in 2 years.

I think the real issue with the Big 12 was that they did not declare a conference champion and If it was me and I was on the committee that puts me in a bad spot and I think the Big 12 was "punished" for it. Bowlsby really screwed up and as we saw from Art Briles he clearly felt that way too. I have to think Bowlsby's job will be in jeopardy.

TCU and Baylor suffer the same fate that a team like MU or any other non blue blood program who has success will suffer. It as much about perception as anything and it did not help that Texas, Okie State, and OU had down years. They just won't get credit for those wins just like MU didn't in a down east. In MU's case we found out the perception was correct...we overachieved. Without a conference title game...that question can't be answered for TCU or Baylor....and the committee went with a surging Ohio State.

If I was Baylor I would be furious, but I think the committee got it right. TCU vs. Ole Miss will be a big game and I am sure TCU feels they have something to prove.

In the end it really argues for an 8 team playoff, but not doubt Bowlsby really screwed Baylor and TCU.

Anybody else wish the BCS formula was still intact, cause this was a mess for sure.

I think the no playoff argument is a cop out. The reality is that with enough teams to have a playoff you can avoid some teams. Alabam is #1, but they also didn't play GA, or FL and SC which have been strong in years past. The Big 12 teams can't escape a matchup because they play all the teams. Saying this is an advantage is assinine.

The same argument about no clear champion was bogus. The committe knew, if they did their home work, that Baylor beat TCU head to head.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

You can call it a cop out or bogus or whatever but it is one of the selection criteria, at least for this year. Maybe they will adjust their criteria after this year, but if not, the Big 12 will be at a disadvantage, unless they adopt a championship format.

Principles. The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:

  • Conference championships won,
  • Strength of schedule,
  • Head-to-head competition,
  • Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
  • Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

The only way Bama could have played those three schools is to have played only 1 non-conference game. They had a schedule I would say was tougher than any of the other three schools in 2 3 4.

I "HOPE" That this will start making schools take on tougher opponents, but if Wins and not Strength of Schedule is the Bar for playoff positions why should they?

Hey I wanted to see Ohio they earned it through adversity with no doubt but I could also argue the Miss St had a much tougher schedule than schools above them. They are 8 with 10-2 but with the strength of schedule its an easy argument to say they should be 3 or 4 and in. Ohio only played 3 ranked opponents and Oregon and Florida's 4 to Miss st's 5 ranked opponents.

Man they need an 8 team playoff at minimum.!

I still say the scoreboard should count the most. I think Ohio St., TCU, and Baylor all had about equal credibility for making the final spot, but TCU should have been out simply because Baylor beat them. Not by much, and at Baylor, but a win is a win. So then it would come down to Baylor against Ohio State, and Ohio State probably had the stronger schedule. So, much as it pains me to say it, I actually think that the committee got it right. They lucked out in that all four schools in the playoff won their last game convincingly. All it would have taken is for one or two of them to barely win or to lose and the whole thing would have blown up.

As for Florida State, they went undefeated in a power five conference, and apparently the ACC isn't too bad, because they won some head to head games against the mighty SEC. No way you could leave them out.

I can say that I think this final 4 thing is way cooler than it has been in the past. If we still had the old system, who do you think would be in the national champioship game? I'd have to say Bama and FSU.

And let's take a look at what we would have with a 16 team playoff. First round game we would have Miz vs. Bama....again...oh joy! Nobody wants to see that again! I'd much rather the tigers be playing Minn. in the citrus bowl. Whether you have 4,8,16 or 40 somebody is going to whine about being left out. Basketball has 68 teams and there are always teams that complain about being left on the bubble. There is one for sure way not to get left out....don't lose.

Alabama did play FL and won 42-21

:)

We're gonna have some pretty confused fans if the Florida Gators and Ohio Bobcats show up instead of the 'Noles and Buckeyes.

I was hoping for some upsets last weekend, specifically to see Bama and FSU lose, that would have really tossed a monkey wrench in the whole process. Surprisingly there were not any upsets, and I can't believe how OSU just stomped Wisconsin.
