Hey oaf I'm looking for a good used vise to get started on tying my own flies. If anyone had one I'd greatly appreciate a pm with details. My wife won't let me buy a good new one until I'm better at tying.

If your wife can tell the difference between a good fly and a BETTER fly, you're a lucky dude.

When I show mine one that is a genuine Masterpiece she just says "Uh hu, cool babe" and goes right back to sleep. :)

My wife is a scrapbook painter and cosmetology expert. She likes detail lol I feel like a five year old with a macaroni painting when I show her the flies I tie without a vice. I'm worried it's going on fridge instead of tackle box

Just remember it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. I think Cabela's has a starter vise for $20, looks like the one that comes in their tool kit. Not the best vise in the world but it would beat tying by hand.

I tie on a peak. Is it more expensive than a bottom line vise... yea. Is it cheaper than a lot of vises... yea.

It has made a huge difference being able to rotate the vise see the other side of the fly.

Will it make you a pro by tying on it? No. Will it give you a hand up though? Yes.

Tying on a rotary has probably made the biggest difference in my skill other than number of flies I have tied over the years.
