This is how I paint jig heads. I bought a 100' roll of 3/32 heat shrink tubing. You can get it at hardware store but buying it in bulk is much cheaper. I cut pieces approx 1/2" long and slip it over the eye. Get 1/8" drool rood and cut pieces approx 1/2" long. Stick a piece into the hole in head for weed guard. Heat, dip into powder paint and hit your pillars, I use hemostats which lock, onto the top of the paint container. Pinch off the tubing, pull out the drool rod, which you can reuse several times, and hang up to cool. No paint in weed guard hole or in hook eye. (I know pic is to big but.....)

Try it without the bed first. I have a nice one and never use it. Thought it would be the answer to cleaning out eyes, but not so far. Actually slows things down. I can dip a couple hundred of the finesse heads in about an hour without the bed.

Powder by the pound is good for colors you will use a lot of...brown, olive gp, etc. Lure Parts is not far off in price. I am using their green pumpkin black flake on our finesse heads now. Pro-tec is probably the most consistent in terms of temp variances, makes it a little easier to use.

Dave, I just found a new place to buy powder paint. Best prices I have found by far.

Boss powder paint from http://fishingskirts.com/if you want some different options with some creative colors and mixes. They don't come with a manufacture's temperature recommendation for curing, but stick it in a toaster oven for 15 minutes on 350 and you're good to go. It's lighter and fluffier than cheap harbor freight paint, so it circulates very well in my fluid bed. I took a half ounce jig out to fish in some shallow sharp rocky areas to test the paint. After fishing for three hours, I could not for the life of me chip the paint.

I think powder coating is a waste of fishing time. I've been spraying mine with primer and then using brown or green camoflauge (rattle cans ) paint to finish. This produced a tough dull finish that doesn't detract from the skirt colors.

Powder coat is fine for fishermen, but the fish probably don't even see the dull camo colors.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Personally, I don't think the fish care if the heads are painted or not, but it's fun....and pretty.
