Greasy and I went out today in his boat on the Meramec. Nice day but the wind was a real bother. River looked good, clear but not extremely so. I thought it would be a decent day if we could handle the wind...

I briefly hooked a fish on about my second cast, but it tangled me in a log and escaped. I did not get another bite until mid-afternoon, when I finally caught a 14 inch spotted bass. And I got one more bite. Period. Greasy caught three small fish.

Some days things just don't work out, and the wind made it very difficult to fish some spots effectively. One bad thing about a south wind is that only the pools beneath north-facing bluffs are out of the wind, and those are the coldest pools, since they never get sun in the winter.

At least we weren't skunked...but that's as close as I've come to being skunked in many years.

Greasy fished the Ned rig all day...so much for that theory.

He must have been fishing it wrong. :have-a-nice-day:

We fished hard and when the wind wasn't howling we fished effectively. It was just one of those days. I had a great time and would do it again in a heartbeat. It can only get better.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

Everybody has those days now and then.
