Sac River Jim Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 My friend Dave and I put in at State Park Marina around 10:30. We tried to throw a jerker down at price branch but the ice was forming in our line guides to the point we just couldn't fish. All i had in the boat was reel magic but it didn't help much. i was able to throw an Arig a little because my rig rod doesn't have micro guides but the level wind guide would ice up. ended losing a rig with kietech swim baits on it OUCH!!!!! found out real fast braid and icy line guides don't mix. any suggestions on what to prevent icing would be appreciated. Any hows when the sun came out it wasn't too bad a day so we decided to do some scouting. Found what we hope will be some pretty good breaks, road beds, bluffs. piles and ect. Best i can do as far as a report is: Price Branch 38.3 degrees Five Fingers 40.1 degrees on a couple banks and hoping these banks warm up a little faster Hawker Point Main lake point and around on the rocks was 38.9 to 39.2. Sometimes this time of year and its slow its not a bad idea to do a little cruising around looking for interesting spots that might be productive when it warms up and the lake level rises. Even tho no fish i had a great day with an old friend i hadn't fished with for a year and we found some places to try when it warms up and it isn't gonna be long now i hope. Tight Lines!!! SRJ
powerdive Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Nice report. Far as I know, there is no cure for casting braid in freezing weather. It's fine for vertical jigging/spooning.
Members Ryno Posted February 6, 2015 Members Posted February 6, 2015 chapstick on the guides has helped keep the ice down on the rod guides "set the steel to em"
conorsixtakc Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I was thinking a quick shot of scotch gard to each guide Aggressor1988long 1
powerdive Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I've used Vaseline a number of times. On the guides, I should say. On the rod guides, I should say. Doesn't seem to matter much...still gotta punch the ice out. So Chapstick does help some, Ryno?
Quillback Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I was thinking a quick shot of scotch gard to each guide I like a shot of Scotch.. Sorry, couldn't resist conorsixtakc, Sac River Jim and olbasser 3

Jim Elam Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I've used Vaseline a number of times. On the guides, I should say. On the rod guides, I should say. LOL! Jim "The obsessions of others are opaque to the unobsessed, and thus easy to mock...If we are lucky we all have at least one."
