I reckon a lot of you guys are spending these frigid days making jigs, weiights, spinner baits, and possibly an alabama rig or two. For those of you in and around the Nixa area, Nixa Haradware has the cheapest and has less impurities in it that I have found elsewhere. The price isn't bad either at $14 for a 5 lb bar which is much cheaper that can be had from BP and other tackle providers i am aware of.

Speaking of tackle companies, there is one located in Richardson, Texas, (just north of Dallas), that I have been dealing with for over 20 years, and have never had a problem. If you tackle builders aren't aware of Barlows Tackle you might visit their web site. Good prices and quality merchandise.,

If I am buying tackle making supplies or gear LurePartsOnline or Barlow's are the only two website I look at.

Agree abk, just got started casting lead jigs and bought my start up products from Lure Parts Online. Great stuff and arrived in good shape and quickly. Just placed another order with Barlow's and Tackle Warehouse (great mold prices).

Thanks for the info on Nixa hardware twoarkies. Nixa is not far from the our lake house in Lampe. I have been looking for a good price on some lead.

Barlows may be good online but never go to their actual store in Richardson, TX. I went last year and was very disappointed. They had very little on the showroom floor.

have any of you guys ever used old lead wheel weights melted down?

Those can be a challenge. Best bet is to melt them outside in a big cast iron pot over on a stove, and mix them with soft lead before turning into ingots. Needs fluxing and skimming too. Too many wheel weights and you end up with a very hard and impure alloy.

Several Years ago, I worked for a company that built a hospital. Several of us got the lead from the back of the scrap sheetrock used in x-ray rooms. I am set for life. It is really good stuff.

What a find that was, I need to find something like that.
