Quillback Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Saw a post where someone mentioned that shad are starting to come though Bull Shoals dam into the White river. Just wondering if the shad kill has started on Table Rock.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Whats the water temperature? Not surface but at 10 and 20 feet down? Die-offs typically occur when water temperatures drop to between 40-55 degrees a front with high winds may cool the water by five degrees or more, increasing the potential for shad die-offs, but only in shallower lakes or surface area. If the shad are deep they may be in more stable water and not nearly as affected. I try and check the water at different depth to keep and eye on the temps. Yesterday at Point 12 on Beaver for instance I HAD SURFACE TEMP OF 42 but when I dropped the gauge out in the channel it was 48 at 20ft. It more about acclimation than the temp especially in spring. I have seen shallow shad shocked in spring with a drastic wind aided warm-up. All you need to do to see a great example of this is be up the white river when they generate, be in the right place and watch the shad float up and boy do the walleye, bass and trout appreciate generation lol. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Yep that all is true, just curious if anyone has seen any dying or struggling shad on Table Rock. Donna G 1
Bill Babler Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 I guided upper taney yesterday and made 3 passes on the dam. Generation was discontinued about 9:30 and I saw no shad or gulls down there yesterday. Water temps on taney were 47 degree up by the dam. When I put in at Branson, the temps down there were 42. Fresh water coming thru would be that 47 number. That is about as current info as you get on the shad. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
