Members Mobud Posted February 28, 2015 Members Posted February 28, 2015 I know Elk River above Noel gets lots of traffic . Our group (getting long in tooth now) thought we might do a weekend float from Noel to 43 bridge. Probably in June. Will we run into much traffic? Enough water to keep from dragging? Gravel bars for camp? Would appreciate any info and experience you can share. Thanks
Amery Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 If you go on any weekend in the summer it will be awful. My advice is find a few week days.
Chief Grey Bear Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Noel to 43 ain't bad during that time. You shouldn't have to drag either. There could be a couple of spots you might but I think you'll be ok. There are some decent gravel bars for camping but it's not really that long of a float. Be sure to pack some catfish ing rods. It's chocked full of channel! If you do camp, they would make a delicious campfire meal. There is a high bluff that will be on your left(south)side that has great gravel bar and is about half way. I don't know the land owner so I can't comment on what his thoughts would be on you being his guest. Keep a low fire. hoglaw Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Ditto what chief said. That stretch gets floated a good deal, but nothing like above Noel. It shouldn't feel crowded. I always catch my big fish above Noel but have caught some nice ones there too.
ollie Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Loaded with catties like Chief said and you might get the occasional white bass on the end of your line. Amery Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I did a lot of night fishing on the elk last summer and I'm excited to hit it this year. I will have to try that stretch below Noel this year.
jtram Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Fish below you will only go back above for the...... uh scenery
Members Flakjkt Posted March 15, 2015 Members Posted March 15, 2015 Like it has been said it is full of channel cats. Just drift a minnow or cutbait down a log and hold on. You can catch them all day like that. I caught 100 or more white bass last year too In that stretch.
Amery Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 As long as the water isn't too high I normally float/fish upstream and downstream from an access. Where would someone put in for that lower section?
