Chief says that the paddlefish thing is totally paid for by the fed. If so then how does that work? Cuz MDC is always who is doing it.

The fed sends them a check, or what ?

Let me clarify a little something for you. And I should have made it clear from the onset but didn't and that is my fault.

I shouldn't have made the statement that the WHOLE paddlefish stocking is completely paid for with federal funds.

That stocking which pertains to stocking of the Osage River which is now underneath Truman lake is paid for with federal funds. I'll have to see if I can find out the percentages.

Aww don't waste your time looking for proof on my account, because I don't give a hoot.

Regardless of "who" pays for it the money still comes from taxpayers....and it is STUPID!

I think it all depends on how you look at as to whether it is stupid or not.

Stupid is subjective. They're cheaper and easier to raise in hatcheries than many sport fish like walleye and hybrid stripers, and because they're planktivores, they're safer to eat than walleye, white bass, flatheads and other predators. As filter feeders they probably help offset some water quality issues on our large rivers and reservoirs.theyre important to the ecosystem, and lots of folks like catching them. I'm not sure how much money is injected into Warsaw's economy during snagging season, but every time I've been through there it's pretty packed with anglers.

I think the tagging study should be interesting, and help MDC figure out how many fish are being harvested, how fast they're growing, whether they're spawning in the wild, and whether adjustments can be done to stocking to improve the fishery.

The kind of stupid I am talking about is not subjective, it is stupid and it doesn't require a 30-40k "study" to prove it.

Even if spoonbill snagging was my most favorite thing in the world to do, it would still be rediculis to me.

Guys think of it as this ... when people go and buy fishing stuff and spend money in fishing communities it is pretty much paying for the taxes. So it's Like getting a return on your investment in those taxes. We need to study water ecosystem impacts and if we can get people involved its even better. Five hundred to stimulate economy and
