Members Small water crappie Posted March 19, 2015 Members Posted March 19, 2015 Going to Bob Kidd on Saturday. I am going to be looking for crappie. Any ideas on what part, how deep and what to use?
Quillback Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I haven't been over there for years, but I'll be interested to hear how you do.
Members Small water crappie Posted March 21, 2015 Author Members Posted March 21, 2015 Caught 6 bass and 1 crappie on the south bank 3 ft deep on minnows under a cork. All were over 16"! Even the crappie! They were coming out of the grass to hit the minnows. Fished for a couple of hours in the standing timber but no luck. They were holding tight to cover 10-12 foot deep in 16-18 fow. Water temp was 54. We lost so many jigs we stuck to the bank and a bobber. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Quillback Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Not a bad day at all. How many other boats were on the lake?
Members Small water crappie Posted March 21, 2015 Author Members Posted March 21, 2015 10 or so. I talked to another guy, said he had been out there waiting for them to turn on. He said that should be when the water temp hits 60 the crappie will move to the flat off of the dam in 8-12 fow. He lived close and frequents there.
Members Smallmouth Addict Posted March 23, 2015 Members Posted March 23, 2015 God been 30 years since I fished that lake as a student at U of A. I always think of the White Bass run on the White River this time of year.
Guest Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 post up any reports from Kidd, Ive been wanting to try the crappie but didnt know where to start. you definitely have the right idea
Members Chef of the Sea Posted June 24, 2015 Members Posted June 24, 2015 Anyone been to bob kidd know whether a kayak is safe out there? Drop rigging for crappie is my preferred tactic. Elmdale does well, but the one time I went out to bob Kidd I told myself I need to work it more. Thanks for any help
Quillback Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 You should be fine in a yak, with all the trees in that lake, I can't imagine there will be any skiers or other wake generators out there.
Amery Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 No it yak friendly. We spend some time out there, cat fishing mainly but it has some standing timber. It's a small lake.
