Longball22 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 This guy was another victim of the Rock Crawler today. Actually my only fish on it today. 4.38 lbs, and up on the gravel just like the bass are supposed to be, haha. One comment on the Rock Crawler: It was tracking true for me at slow speeds today, but I noticed when I burned it back to the boat it was not. I played with tuning it a bit, and easily got an extra 2 or 3 feet of dive out of it. I'm throwing it on 8lb. fluoro, and probably getting down to 12 or 13 feet now. And a question: Is there any knack to throwing warts/these type of baits? I'm basically trying to pull it along as slow as it will wobble, and making pauses when I feel it hang on a rock/stump.
Quillback Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Haven't heard much on the swing head jig...another option for "wart" banks? Should start working, I picked up a couple of bass on a swing jig with a Menace grub before the freeze hit.
Quillback Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 That trout is a football! Did you keep it? Just wondering if it was stuffed with shad.

Wind or pull it down until it makes bottom contact, then pull it with the rod tip. Like dragging a jig. Should feel it grinding into and over stuff. These trout are getting out of hand... Longball22 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I didn't keep it. Strongly considered it though. I think I wore the fat boy out, because I wasn't sure it was going to make the swim away from my boat. Bigmo 1

These trout are getting out of hand... may i add after your pull with the rod tip wind back up keeping constant contact with the bait and the trick is to let it pause with zero or very little rise. if you feel the bait quit vibrating chances are its a fish coming up on it from behind and mouthing it.

Exactly.
Guest Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Add the channel cat to the growing number of victims by the rock crawler. Dad caught it out of the white river above Sequoyah yesterday, water 48.

What did you do to tune it to get 2-3 extra feet?
