I had a short night... after setting and rigging up.. its now just after 9:30.. midge and eggs again (Ducky.. that egg I got last night is TOAST!!) well in my brief hour.. I hooked into maybe 20-25 fish.. brought 10-12 to hand.. most was that long distance release.. ok by me.. I didnt have to get my hands wet well when we got there the water was at the bottom step... when I left.. there was walking room down the bank.. they shut it down to 2 units.. tailwater at 12:30am is 706.5 so guys in the morning.. It may be shut off or just one or 2 going.. Leonard http://www.taneycomonights.com
duckydoty Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Hey Leonard Instead of fishing with you last night, I tied a dozen more eggs for ya. Geesh, some people are just livin life I cant seem to tie a fly that will out last 20-30 fish. Now how am I gonna use Hard As Nails on an egg? jdmidwest Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Ducky, have you tried Gel spun thread or Kevlar thread yet. A little tougher thread may hold up better. Depends on how the fly is falling apart. What colors are working now? I have a friend who is going to Branson this weekend and we are going to tie some flies tonight. duckydoty Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I'll have to try the gell spun. I'd like to be able to tighten that yarn down a little more. My weak link in the fly is the whip finish without any head cement. I use a double and sometimes triple whip finish that after 20-30 fish will come un-tied But then again how many fish can you expect to catch on one fly before it shreads Peach has been the color to use the last couple of times I've been down there. The size 10 primrose and pearl with the 1/8" tungsten bead has been getting just as much attention as the egg. The two together have been a killer combo. I've been using a yellow/orange D-rib instead of copper wire on the primrose and pearl that, I think, is working out real well. Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! The Caddis Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 What rotten luck, you catch 20 fish and wear out a fly. I am more likely to lose it in tree, drop it in the water while retying my not, or something of the like. A fly that lasts 20 fish, we should be so lucky as to catch 20 fish every time out. I have no problem tying on a new fly after 5 or so. IMO that is a good problem to have.
Seth Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Is this Primrose and Pearl midge you are using a secret recipe or can I find the recipe for this pattern so I can tie up a few to try.
Leonard Posted January 24, 2007 Author Posted January 24, 2007 Its a secert!!!! but look in the fly tying forum http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...opid=25606& http://www.taneycomonights.com
Seth Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks. I checked the Fly Recipe section already, but I guess I just over looked it. I'm going to try this one at Maramec Springs and see how they eat it there. Been trying to find a good never fail fly for that place.
jdmidwest Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Eggs are pretty tough, and you are using a double whip finish so you should not have any problems there. Try the tougher thread, 3/0 or A if you can't find the gel spun. Thanks for the primrose and pearl tip, I'll tie a few for him to try along with the eggs. duckydoty Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 The egg I gave Leonard 2 nights ago really got abused I saw him one time trying to put the bend back in the hook because too many fish had straightened it out. He must have caught 10 more fish on it just that night alone. He then used it again the next night, like that wasn't enough for one fly, and complained that it's now trashed Thats really funny (I think) You guys will spend all this time tying up these new combos and watch, tomorrow night everything will change. The fish wont even look at it. Just get out there and try something new every now and then. Its fishin!! Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at..
