Sprint21fter Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Fished AIA on saturday and chose to fish up towards Baxter where the water wasn't very dirty. We caught our limit in 45 minutes to start the day fishing wiggle warts. Water temps ranged from 53-57 by the end of the day. Having our limit that early took some pressure off but we knew we needed to find a couple 4lbers or bigger to get into the check line. So we continued to hit spawning areas at the mouthes and half way back in the feeder creeks and continued catching 2-2.25 lb fish. We flipped jigs to bushes, spinnerbaits around bushes and docks and even some a-rigs. We all caught fish on everything we threw. However, we never could run into a 3-5lb bite. Ended the day with over 20 keepers and 12 lbs for our best five. We only had 1 largemouth in the bag. 2 nice smallmouth and 2 16.5 inch kentuckies. Top three bags were 20lbs. Fishing is very good right now but if you are fishing some tournaments a difference maker or two will put you in the check line. fishingaddiction and Champ188 2
fishingaddiction Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Great report Sprint. Sounds you threw everything you had at them and tried different areas to get those better fish you needed. As we all know the LM catch rate at or above 5 lbs on the Rock is down. They turn up every now and then, but are not in great numbers. Fishing pressure and of course the fish kill have had negative impacts on those big uns. Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Champ188 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Good report. Like you said, just gotta have that big bite right now to get paid.
OldMillRoad Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 My son and I fished it as well Sprint. We weren't too far from you. The bite was ridiculous. We caught over 40, culled umteen times by ounces and wound up with a little over 13 lbs. Our best fish came on a jerkbait and spinnerbait. A shakey head did the most damage numbers wise. We found two points that were just loaded with Kentuckies, it was every single cast, but everything was 14-16 inches. A whole lot of fun and boy its hard to leave fish but we just couldn't get a kicker either. So we spent the last hour and a half hitting channel swings, nothing doing there. It was a great day on the water. Champ188 and fishingaddiction 2
