Members Jozark Posted April 16, 2015 Members Posted April 16, 2015 Those are a couple of real nice Crappie. I don't understand it seems like Crappie fishing has been off this year. My father and uncle fished the James on Sunday and said everyone was hunting for them.

Water temps are right, just need the fish to get it on.
Champ188 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 My grandfather was a crappie catchin' dude ... fished every day for weeks on end in spring and again in the fall. He always talked about crappie being cyclic, i.e. big populations some years and not so much in others. Don't know if there's any scientific support for that theory or not.

I've heard that before also champ and have wondered if this year isn't one of those down years......3 yrs ago was a really good year for me and several crappie chasers I know. Last year me and my dad crushed them. Minnow/bobber catching limits each every day while we were down, boy what fun! We caught a few 16 inch monsters too! Fingers crossed that more moved to the banks and we can catch more than 1 here or there like last weekend. This darn rain is gonna honk things up though I fear.
Ron Burgundy Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Yes this rain could mess things up especially my turkey hunting this weekend...good luck with the crappie. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
Champ188 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I did hear one gobble Saturday. Don't remember exactly where we were but it was somewhere around Big Creek.
balsabee Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I really don't think the main rush to the bank has happened yet. If the water level would have remained stable it would have been a lot better. I caught 8 nice keepers on Saturday up the James and every single one was a male. Most were around 12 ft. A couple were around 4-5 ft.
