Hey Everyone! Im taking couple buddies on our boat to Taneycomo this weekend. We will probably put in at Scotty's
Trout Dock. I usually only get to fish on Taneycomo a couple of times a year. Can any of you give me some advice on how to get my buddies on some fish? I have generally only used power bait but would try anything that is currently working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Water may be off for you this weekend. It's off today.

If you're wanting to fish something different, I'd suggest fishing something under an indicator like a jig, Trout Magnet or fly- or a combo.

Trout Magnets under a float have been hot! Pink/white, pink, white and chartreuse are the best colors on a gold hook. Fish them starting at three feet deep and move down until you find where they’re holding, which could be as deep as 10 feet. Dockhand Duane Doty is catching rainbows off the dock using his spey fly rod and fishing 11-feet deep with a Trout Magnet. I’d use two-pound line or 6x tippet.

Micro Jigs and marabou jigs are also working under a float. Best colors are brown, sculpin or brown/orange with an orange head, sculpin/ginger, olive or brown/orange with a brown head. Best sizes would be 1/125th, 1/100th, 1/50th-ounce. For micros, use olive, sculpin or ginger, again, with two-pound line or 6x tippet.

If you feel comfortable doing so, add a Zebra Midge under the jig using 6x tippet–about 12-18 inches from the jig. Use a #14 or #16 red or black Zebra. I say “comfortable” because this rig is a little difficult to cast without getting tangled.

I have 4 lb test line on my reel. Should I add a swivel and add 2lb test off or it? Also, how do I tie a Zebra Midge below the Trout magnet? How do I attach the 18 inches of tippet to the jig? Im sorry for the elementary questions, im a bass fisherman.

PTI : tie the 2 lb onto the 4 lb with a surgeons knot. easy , easy knot. Even a bass fisherman can do it.

Thanks Ham! Should I only be using the 4lb line? Do I even need to use a lower lb. line leader off the 4lb line?

I'm a bass fisherman by way of birth, I CAN NOT use 2 lb line. I break off when I think about setting the hook, but your skill set may be lots better. I use 6 lb on the White River and usually catch the fool out of them and I rarely will use 4lb

That wimpy stuff would not be required on the White River below BSL, but Taneycomo is a different animal. Phil is THE MAN on Taney (and pretty darn good everywhere else), I would at least try what he recommended. .. I would likely do the 4 lb in a P Line CX Premium or Maxima or Berkley 100% fluro on Taney IF they are not running water. When they run water, it's game on. The trout are full on stupid.You can use 6 lb line and lean on them a little bit. It is more challenging when there is minimal flow. You can sight fish individual trout and make a jig flare up off the bottom as they approach it and catch em. Been there and done that.
