Members tross45 Posted April 19, 2015 Members Posted April 19, 2015 I am considering buying a midsize SUV to pull a Shawnee boat (20 ft long 4 feet wide) and trailer. I am running a 2 stroke Mercury 15 HP motor. Can anyone help me by providing the approximae weight of the boat, motor and trailer?
grizwilson Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 John Berry pulled his with his Volvo Station Wagon for years. Might call Rob at Shawnee. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
jdmidwest Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I would not think it would be much. I can lift the tongue on my 14' aluminum jon boat with 9.5 motor, battery, and front trolling motor. I can't imagine the tongue weight would be more than 100 lbs. AWD helps on slick and unimproved ramps, somethng to consider. sfiser Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 i would think total boat weight w/ trailer and motor would be somewhere around 1,000-1,200 pounds. I pull mine with a 04 nissan pathfinder 2wd with a v6 and it tows just fine. Midwest is probably close on tounge weight. I can lift the trailer of my Topwater pretty easily and move it around and thats with a 30hp jet, battery, and all gear inside
Members Amurray Posted April 23, 2015 Members Posted April 23, 2015 I have a 20ft Supreme w/ 40/30 Jet and 20ft Supreme w/ 20HP prop. I can easily tow the boats from NWA to Cotter with a Ford Ranger w/ 4.0 V6. I did need to add some helper springs in the rear which improved the handling while towing.
