Feathers and Fins Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Its a PITA on heavy wind but you just have to crank up the trolling motor and try to keep position. I have teased about Powerpoles on Beaver but im seriously looking in to getting a set and then modify the pole (s) to anchor in 16ft ( Micro anchor ) then try to modify the spike for 6 ft or 17. As for the Keitechs, 1/4 oz head is my preferred no mater the wind, but on heavy wind days scale down to 6lb line and slow the retrieve way down like you are slow rolling. Equally deadly it to put it on a PJ's to add some bulk. In the clear water definitely scale down to 6lb and be sure to use floro. Its really no different than tight-lining for crappie in wind with super light heads you just have to slow way way down to keep the bait down. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Thank you sir. I'm really happy with it. I was thinking of how to fish deep, cover water, not fish too quickly with a slow to medium presentation, and not have to use the trolling motor. Having an aluminum boat over one of those 21 foot bass rigs that the pros use puts me at a disadvantage when it's windy. I might as well have hoisted a sale on my rig when it is blowing hard like that. So I want to drift with the wind and fish. Make a pass, then turn on the big motor and go back and start again. Was working for me late Friday on the spot where I was fishing. Hawgfan79 1 Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! kjackson Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 What rps sid: drift sock will slow you waaay down. Of course, you need one of the right size. Since you're just drifting, you could play with a five-gallon bucket. Drill a few holes in it, add some flotation and a rope, and you're done.
J-Doc Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 ^ I can't fold up a bucket and store it. I'll stick with the sock for my size boat. :-) kjackson 1 Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. zarraspook Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Power pole makes "drift paddles"...... ********Not only is the Power-Pole an awesome shallow water anchoring system perfect for keeping you in place for shallow water pitching and casting presentations, but since they introduced the Drift Paddle last year, the applications to walleye fishing increased significantly.******* http://www.thenextbite.tv/real-deal-tips/power-pole-boat-control "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"

YAKFM Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I saw them as I was driving over the 12 bridge Sunday afternoon. There was another FLW boat on the channel side of the bar just out of the frame when I passed by too. He's close enough to ID what the FLW guy had for lunch.

Mike jones Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Yakfm- the other FLW boat was the camera/chase boat. All the top ten had one with them all day.
YAKFM Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Yakfm- the other FLW boat was the camera/chase boat. All the top ten had one with them all day. Ahh, that makes sense. I thought that that was awful close for two anglers to be fishing on the final day of a big tournament like that. Thanks for the info Mike.
