Amery Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Planning on taking a youngster this Saturday if the rain doesn't fall too hard. I've never been but I hear good things?. Any specific advice?
Members MattS Posted April 24, 2015 Members Posted April 24, 2015 I've fished their twice personally when I was younger. I threw anything and everything and got bites. But an egg or a SJ or a scud would be the best. It really is a great place. Plenty of pools where fish stock up like a trout park x2.
Amery Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Nice. We should do fine as long as the creek doesn't get up too much.
Justin Spencer Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I would swing by Blue Ribbon fly shop on your way in and get some advice, I think they are open again. Always pays off to get the latest and greatest information on tackle and techniques from the local source! Ham Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I used to take my son when he was under 16. Especially if the water is a little off color you can go with something larger and use 10 lb straight mono as a leader. Long fancy casts aren't necessary and often not possible. Gonna mostly be roll casts. Bring a big freaking net. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Amery Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 That is the #1 piece of advice I've received.
Amery Posted April 26, 2015 Author Posted April 26, 2015 We did awesome, had several over 20" and like 10 in between 16-20". A bunch of smaller ones too. I'll try to post pics later. Ham 1
Members Mac's Orphan Posted June 1, 2015 Members Posted June 1, 2015 Took my son there years ago. He insisted on using a dry fly (black gnat) and danged if he didn't connect with a 18" bow! He's never forgotten that adventure - and neither have I. Great place to put some young folks onto a sizeable fish. If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself...
Amery Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Yea we got one about 18" on a para Adams in the upper pool that's only about 16" deep. There was a good brown up there the kid wanted but they were a little spooky.
