MOBass Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 On the water about 7AM...Overcast all day, water temp from 58 and change up to 60 back in areas with some wind protection. Started swimming a grub on a point for nothing. Dropped into a pocket and it was game on. Ned and split shot with a fish dr. worked very well. Fish were not banged up, no bloody tails. Did see fish on beds and cruisers but was not targeting the visible beds. Went back to a point and caught a couple or rough looking buck bass. Gave up on that and bounced from pocket to pocket. Fished mostly new water and caught fish off of the right type of banks. Messed around longer than I should on some garbage banks for not much. Got tired of catching fish on the Ned and started throwing other stuff. TX rigged lizard caught a few, ran a bank with a wart and caught a few, should have thrown a spinnerbait. No love at all on the topwater. Areas getting hammered hard by the wind were not too good, seemed the fish wanted a little protection from the wind, but a bit of ripple on the water. First time fishing the Ned rig. Lighter heads worked better even with the wind. It is hard to fish wrong. I was fishing it dead slow, my partner was moving it a little more, we had a few doubles and a few back to back so both retrieves were working. Ended with 30ish, 8 keeps, 5 best about 12#. Nothing broke, no one got hurt. Good day overall. Muddy Water, 5bites, Ham and 1 other 4
Champ188 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Good day, nice report and thanks for sharing. One question ... what were the right kind of banks?
Smalls21 Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Got tired of catching fish on the Ned How is that possible?
MOBass Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Good day, nice report and thanks for sharing. One question ... what were the right kind of banks? More gravely 45 degree or so. Bigger rock and ledge stuff was not near as good and steep stuff didn't work so well. Parked the boat in 12-20 ft trying to figure out a better depth. It all worked well and I could not put my finger on shallower or deeper being better.
MOBass Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 How is that possible? Easy, I wanted to see something blow up a topwater and I like the feel of a fish mugging a crankbait on the grind. I got half of that yesterday.
