J-Doc Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I got to the lake about 6:20(pm) for a little late afternoon action. Ran up river to check an area. Ended up finding a new crappie hole. I'll have to go back to that one when I have my crappie gear. Left it out this trip (figures....irony loves me). Checked my area to see if it had walleye, crappie, etc. No signs/marks on the graph that I wanted and no bites. So I ran to my other spot where I had been catching small stripers and good bass. It's been a fun area and the last two trips have re-confirmed what has taken me a long time to learn about Beaver for bass fishing. The big ones live offshore and dare I say.........some of them haven't been caught before. The first fish below is a 15" spot (at least I think it's 15" if memory serves, I believe I measured it). He inhaled my live bait and pulled back on the rod but then stopped and started swimming with the boat. I was slow drifting (looking for food fish, not bass). When I started reeling in, the fight was on. Then I had Mr. Greenjeans and Ms. Browneyed Girl show up later after dark. I also caught an 18" striper that was chunky. Hated to turn him lose but.......law says 20" so he went back (you're welcome striper haters). He was real fun to catch too. Pulled drag at the boat several times. Had a tough time getting the striper in the boat and a tough time netting the big smallmouth. There's just no quit in them. I had a fuse randomly blow out on me (first in the new boat) and I was chasing that down for a while. Or else I think I would have had more fish in the few hours I was out. Night fishing was fun too but it can be dangerous. IF you were out last night in a bass boat running on plane at full throttle just before it was pitch black dark and you didn't have your lights on..........YOU'RE AN IDIOT! I saw two bass boats doing this. Too darn lazy to get out their lights and turn them on. You're going to get someone else killed too so please.............obey the law for the sake of others. Notropis, Phil Lilley, Quillback and 2 others 5 Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
M_Taylor Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Nice catching. Gets me motivated to get back out there. Due to overseas travel it's been two weeks since I've been out! Darn tournament this weekend kinda put a damper on my hopes this weekend.
