dprice Posted May 16, 2015 Author Posted May 16, 2015 There are some 10' Talons in the member classified on the Crappie.com site g I think I probly need 10 footer on my boat any how. I'm curious about the 8 tho. Are talons or poles better I really dont know anyone with aset Dprice priceheatingair.comĀ
5bites Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Talons are easier to install. No leaks to worry about. Less height. Poles have great customer service from what I've heard. Can be lowered out of the way (biggest advantage). I have a single 8' talon and like it a lot. Can't wait to get another.

I watch a boat In a creek with one. It seemed to be ok??? Lastly is 8 foot enough? Dprice priceheatingair.comĀ
5bites Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Two will lock you straight and more solid but one is still a huge improvement over none. You won't do circles but you will turn with the current with a single pole. Basically just like a flag in the wind more or less. Even crappie fishing this year it was awesome to have. I'm also looking forward to using it next weekend catfishing with my boys.
dprice Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 It says on the box that it has hardware to mount directly to the jackplate. But I've never opened it. Basscat. Sent you a pm. Thank you Dprice priceheatingair.comĀ
Sore Thumbs Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I know a guy who has a pair of Talons a year old. Wants $2400 for the pair
5bites Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I'm not interested but was curious what the length was
dprice Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 Thanks you sore thumbs. I did order my brackets. For starters. Need to get those installed . This may mean nothing .... But I still hear the bps guy saying. That they get stuck a lot and you have to dive to get them up? This doesn't make sense Was this just a certain model or what? How does one get them up if there was a problem? Im definitely getting one but if you all could answer I'd appreciate it Dprice priceheatingair.comĀ
5bites Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I heard problems of the first gen units getting stuck some but it's only when they would pull in lots of mud and sand. That's not really an issue for us obviously. I will say at least once though my graph was showing 3-4' and my talon buried so I apparently found a very soft spot. No problem with it going back up. If you did have a problem with it getting stuck there is a bolt you turn toward the top to manually raise the spike. No scuba diving required. Worse case scenario is you loosen the four nuts that hold the unit tight in the bracket and lift the whole thing out. This takes about a minute, on land anyway. I do it every time I come home to put my boat in the garage. My cowling barely clears. My guess is since it was a bps salesman and since they aren't selling them they might be slightly biased. I haven't found them to be the sharpest anyway. In my personal experience anyway. Nice guys just not always educated beyond the brochure or rumors. Also I believe my unit is a first gen since I bought it used. The new ones are supposed to be even better and even more quiet. If you can swing 12's do it.
