Ok so as I'm fishing for crappie having 0 luck my son was trying to catch bait fish he got bored with the bobber so he started casting just his worm and was catching all types of fish every 4 or 5 cast but was getting hung up a lot with exposed hook is that basically what a texas rig setup is for to avoid getting hung up on rocks sticks etc? He was loving the fishing caught a catfish drum 10" largemouth and some bluegill all off my dock in about half an hour. I bought the stuff to try a ned rig and was thinking about trying a texas rigged worm. I want to keep the bite coming for him since he is 9 it will keep him interested but don't want to re tie hooks every 5 cast is ned rig and texas rig a good place to start?

Let him. continue what he is doing. There is really nothing that will avoid hang ups except fishing where there are no hangups. There are many variables and adjustments to a set up to fishing plastic worms around hangup or anywhere else for that mattter. Only way you will know what to do is to be right with the experience to recoginize it. I imagine you will get plenty of suggestions though on here. Use what ever you think meets your needs.

just google Texas rig plastic worm. You can use the same hook, but the point gets protected by being imbedded in the worm. Just make sure the hook point winds up embedded just below the top of the worm for easier hook ups. It will be cumbersome at first, but after 3 or 4 tries, it will be second nature. If you have a neighbor dock owner who fishes, just ask him how to rig a Texas rigged worm.
